GO FAGL GO

Welcome. These are called mixes. If you like the artists, go buy their music. I might do that too! More likely, if you like the artist, go see their live show.

No Funny Business

To anyone hating rock music before 1970, sincerest of apologies for the first handful of tracks on this mix. One day last week, I had a huge day of rock flashbacks from my childhood and felt the need to download as much 50s and early 60s rock as I could remember. I actually made a mix of nothing but that, but then wondered who would download it..(although if any of you want it, shoot me a message). Beyond there I extend into a Breeders track taken from another failed mix of mine. It was to be a "Divine" mix with all of the songs being about, having within the title, or referencing God or Satan. I scratched that idea. I do have 2 themed mixes that will be coming out soon though. Another divine track being the Violent Femmes track. The Bird track is from his forthcoming album. AS yet only terrible rips have made it to the internet without being shut down. Hope you can get past the crappy quality to hear the beauty(if you like old an. dr. ew anyhow...name split for fear of being shut down by the web marshal...i shit you not. there is an entity out there pa[trolling] the net that is actually called such). New Bon Iver, as well as new music from a crew of others(some new to me, some not so). Anyhow, as always, I hope you enjoy this.

The Snelste

Snelste means quickest in Dutch according to babelfish, which has failed me often. I'll accept it though. I'm releasing this mix faster than I regularly would because I feel the need to make up for lost mixes of yore. I hope you enjoy it. I like the first track quite a bit. The Rosebuds are an odd little band from NC. The mix starts off strongly with rock music before dipping into more electronic zones, then re-emerging into obscurity through public image ltd and pere ubu(justin inspired me to re-listen to these 2 bands), then into newer bands once more. The final track from Dinamoe was ripped from Matthew Dear's much longer Body Language mix. I find it very relaxing and beautiful though. It helped me overcome a serious hangover one afternoon. Anyhow, without further jawing...

The Not So Incredible Hulk

The Not So Incredible Hulk that could.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Welcome back, folks. I present a mix of magnificent proportion. A much better return to form than my previous endeavor. Enclosed within, one will find mystic wonders to shake the dreariest of asses, to the rock the deadest of socks, and cheer up people like, well, me. African pop covers, coked out barbies, bands you've never heard of! and some you probably(maybe?) have! Check out "Brooklyn" and try not to smile. I dare you. anyhow, hope you enjoy. It's spastic and wonderful, as per usual. *starts off slow and then head butts you with happiness/sheer terror at the guttural growls of Alicja Trout(Black Sunday) and beyond*

Love,
Team FAGL(really only one dude, but every other blog says team this or team that, so why can't I be a team too?)

The Giant One

It's a big return. It really is. Been a long time since I posted a mix. I've had it ready. Just needed some pushing from a friend to get it the hell out. Since my hospital stay, I've enjoyed several affairs with varied artists' discographies and wanted to reflect as such here. This final version has gone through about 9 changes in draft. Enough of the side talk.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

every track is standout(except some of the electronic ones...I doubt they stand out to me after 3 or more months). I hope you think so too. Comments are always loved, even if they're lambasting ones.
To show some bias though, my favorites are Fucked Up, Compulsive Gamblers, J-Live, Women, Gang Gang Dance, Wax Fang, and Hot Chip. I laughed at myself for presenting 3 totally differing kinds of hiphop tracks side by side by side.

The Six

dear Friends, countrymen, strangers, internet fiends, and lovers,

I apologize for the wait on the next mix. I have it ready, but...I am making you wait. I was in the hospital for a while but am now back at home. Anyhow, I present 6 albums that I feel more people should hear. Additionally, I feel a few of them are hard to find on the internet. I had trouble when I did searches for them over the past year or so. Without further ado, I present the Six.

No Cover 2 or Xmas + 5

The Xmas + 5 only has bearing in relation to the original picture. It was called XMAS 5 and is from Thailand. But I'm not here to talk about beatles or John Mccain. I really like this mix. I feel it's pretty solid. Lots of new sounds/bands to sink your teeth into. I've listened to it a whole lot. As I stated in my previous post, I've been quite hurt lately. I should get better soon and be able to do more. Until then, enjoy this and let me know what you think.

Happy Anniversary

It's been a year of mixes and posts. Can't believe it. Has all passed by so quickly. I've made 2 best of the year mixes, but due to being pretty busy right now...they're gonna have to wait. I apologize, but this is going on: Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It may be Monday or Tuesday before I get to them. At least I have them made, right?

Hope all's well. Been a year!!!

SPACE BABIES

I'm back. Sorry for the day late delay. Mediafire was being a not nice friend of FaGL last night and wouldn't complete the verification process while uploading this masterful piece of...ummm... alright enough ego stroking(and corny humor apparently). Lots of bass here. blah blah Indian Jewelry plays in Hot Springs in a few weeks and I'm seriously considering taking off work and driving the 3 hours to go. I can't believe they're playing there and not Little Rock or Memphis. The Polmo Polpo track is pure beauty. That's a hell of a Scot accent on the Reindeer Section. They feature a famous person or two. I'll let you look it up in great anticipation. Hope you're not annoyed by Warrior Queen being on the mixes two drops in a row. If so, well, skip them? Give the Bug and Skream a shot though. They both deserve it. Enjoy the remainder of summer.

(Thos Rabbits?? You're gonna have to wait until next mix for those rabbits. This mix features those robots that need freedom though...)

as always, comments are loved by me for every second that i read them!1!!!!1!

untitled

This mix is all over the place. I jacked a whole section of Diplo's Top Ranking mix, then added in a cut from his Fabric Live 24 as well(right after). Get ahold of Top Ranking if you can. I'm not a super fantastic Santogold fan, but I did quite enjoy this. I'll probably end up upping it. I've been enjoying some Ponytail. I hope that you will as well. They're...interesting. I'd like to meet the girl doing all of the barking. The Ghostface interlude is brilliant. hmm, Thanks to my friend Sam in Denver for the Siah + Yeshua dapoed. And thanks to Emma for getting me into Bruce Haack. I know next to nothing about Sparks, but their track blew me away. There are so many elements at play. AS always, I'm a big fan of the isolationistic Dodos. Enjoy the 49 hour Radiohead remix. hehe

World's Finest

Another great few weeks have gone by. yay for that. here's a new mix that i've been working on. I've recently gotten the Stax singles 9 cd box set collecting Stax singles from 59-68. I've enclosed a few of those here, as well as a bunch of other random goodness. Lemme know if you want the stax cds. I'll be happy to up them. Without further ado:

MODERN ENGINEERING

Welcome back to a mix! Modern Engineering! So Amazing! All of the images used in the cover were found while doing a search for "Memphis".
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

With the July 4 holiday quickly approaching, I have...Yeah, none of that. This mix is more electronic than ever(with down tempo, electro, etc prevailing). Hopefully, you'll enjoy the few rock cuts as well as the Bun B gems from his latest, II Trill. The first track is pretty amazing. I watched Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo last night and then had to go download the entire soundtrack. A few cuts are from Ghostly Swim, which is a mix created for Adult swim by label Ghostly International. I can't really tell you why, but I love the head trip that Thavius Beck creates with that Beach Boys' track. Well, hope you enjoy. As always, feel free to tell me what you liked, loved, hated, or blahed(shit, or what you passed on to your chums).

addendum: my apologies for not noticing this, but when I uploaded the mix I accidentally left out two of the tracks. I've now made it to where when you click the image it takes you to a folder with the left off songs.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

i have a new mix already in the works, but will wait until next Tuesday just for a schedule's sake. Until then, hope you're enjoying the 13.

Surprise Friday the 13th post

Huoratron - $$ Troopers

it reminds me of a mixture of Vitalic's "Poney" video quality and Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy" absurdity

plus his music is composed of two tweaked out gameboys

Harrison Ford & the Disciples of dOOOOm

Good to be back to normal posting. I had a lot of free time on my hands over the last month(hence 4 mixes instead of 2). That's all over with now. I really like this mix a lot. It's actually been ready, in a basic structure, for about 3 weeks, but I've tweaked it slightly over the past week(featuring a new discovery in the form of Polyrhythm Addicts thanks to sam.). As for the rest, it came from here and there. As always, I've tried to incorporate a good, healthy mix of lots of differing types of craptasm. Fap to this, Blog boy! Sorry if some of this is "dated", as it has been around on my computer for 3 weeks[see above](note: this message pertains to music addicts on the dick of everything new and hyped, such as myself). Some of the names are old familiars for readers of Fuck a GL, others are new. Finally, as I generally do, I will hype a band that is playing in Memphis soon. This time it's the Lymbyc System. Signees of Mush Records(who have grandfathered many an ungerground footnote) and all around good music makers(if you like instrumental soundtrackish keyboard music). They'll be at the Hi-Tone tomorrow(May 21) for 8 fish and a loaf of bread.

note: this is my tribute/mockery of an old ass Ford playing Indiana Jones

Jesus Christ, that was a lot of () used.

Speaking of JC, I want to apologize for the lack of good covers recently. I was inspired to make the mixes, but not present them with decent covers. Hopefully, this is a return to form. Thank you, Nick, for helping me come up with alternate jobs and career paths for the Lord Savior(such as wing walking).

Happy Days!

I had never heard Wire before this past week. Got the first three albums and the early incarnations of this mix held about 6 songs of theirs. I narrowed that down some(as seen). I highly recommend their album, Chairs Missing. The Angels' track is so messed up. The lyrics, I mean. I like the Justice remix more than I like the original. Same with the Her Space Holiday. Blah blah blah Hands of Time are excellent.

A Colors

Bah: Themed mixes.
I woke up restless today, so I decided to post this early. I've had an intensely shitty week, but as always will refrain from getting personal. I hope you'll enjoy some of these tracks, as I've tried to go all over the board(although, I did cheat by using 3 huge songs from the onset of it all). I'll have a real mix up for Tuesday. These themed mixes seem to have more downloads than most of the others though. If it's what people prefer, then why not? Whatever. I miss a girl, a close family member died, my back hurts. on the bright side, (like a fortune cookie) new prospects on the horizon. All I can picture by saying that is a meager redneck kid standing on a forest ridge ala Where the Red Fern Grows. Anyway, what the fuck am I talking about? Colors? oh yeah.

enjoy this. possibly. If not, I'll return to normal posting next week.
